What's a combi?
Combi -Combination boilers - more commonly known as a combi boiler - are the most popular kind in the UK and provide heat and hot water with no need for water tanks or cylinders.

Standard

What's standard?
Conventional boilers - also known as open vent or regular boilers - have both a cylinder and usually 2 tanks 1 large and 1 small (this system fills itself with water).

System

What's a system?
System boilers - also known as sealed system - come with a water cylinder (which usually sits in an airing cupboard) and no water tanks it will also have a pressure gauge and a filling loop somewhere.(you have to fill this system with water)

Back Boiler

What's a back boiler?
BBF-back boiler fire these are a combined unit where the boiler is behind the fire usually in the living room within the chimney. They also have a water cylinder and water tanks.

Do your radiators have TRVs?

Thermostatic Radiator Valves (TRVs) sense the air temperature around them and regulate the flow of water through the radiator which they are fitted to. They do not control the boiler. They should be set at a level that gives you the room temperature you want.
